I’m serving on your Town Council during a busy, important time for the future of Ward 1. The issues are complex, so I always take the time to listen to you, learn about all the options, and then serve you the best I can with my votes and my advocacy. Here are a few of the Ward 1 wins for which I’ve provided leadership and support in my first four years on Council:
Pending William Hilton Parkway Corridor Memorandum of Understanding with County
🗳️Improved access to Jenkins Island Cemetery.
🗳️Improved access to property owners, minimized right of way land.
🗳️Improved safety and efficiency of intersections.
🗳️Provided Community Development Corporation resources to assist with noise pollution.
🗳️Provided Community Development Corporation resources to generate economic development.
Stoney
🗳️ Revamped much desired PickleBall & Basketball Courts.
Sandalwood Food Pantry
🗳️Approved long-term lease for this important community asset.
Squire Pope
🗳️Completed sailing and rowing center mural to tell the story of how our waterways were saved.
🗳️Restriped pedestrian crosswalks and new signage.
🗳️Improved Greens Shell Park.
Wild Horse
🗳️ Approved additional land and funding for Taylor Family Park.
Gum Tree
🗳️Approved Development Agreement with One Street Residential for NorthPoint neighborhood.
Old Woodlands
🗳️Improved drainage to address negative effects from neighboring construction.
Jonesville
🗳️Purchased stable and land on Jonesville Road.
🗳️Acreage: 12.019 acres Purchase Price: $7,600,000.00 (funded by Real Estate Transfer Fee).
🗳️Benefits from Acquisition: Preclusion of 93 single-family units and 93 peak-hour driving trips. Master planning with community input now in progress.
🗳️Leisure path budgeted.
🗳️Installed an emergency spillway at Lake Russell.
Marshland
🗳️ Approved additional land and funding for Patterson Family Park.
Mitchelville
🗳️Pushed master plan process for new land. Aquired 26 acres of land in Mitchelville area out of Development, $11.745 million funded by Green Space.
St. James Baptist Church
🗳️Worked with the church, Town, and County, along with Federal Partners to facilitate plans and secure funding for relocation of the church due to expansion from the Airport runway.
🗳️Confirmed availability of suitable land on the Mid-Island Tract.
Beach City Road to Mathews Drive
🗳️Approved crossing improvements on William Hilton Parkway to increase safety for pedestrians and drivers – currently under construction.
🗳️Decreased speed limit to 40MPH.
Muddy Creek Stabilization Plan
🗳️Purchased tract at 30 Bryant Road.
🗳️Acreage: 7.19 acres Purchase Price: $3,400,000.00 (funded by Real Estate Transfer Fee).
🗳️Benefits from Acquisition: Preclusion of 43,140 square feet of commercial development, 57 timeshare units, and 45 PM peak-hour driving trips. Master planning with community input now in progress.
Shelter Cove Lane
🗳️Purchased the former Cracker Barrel Restaurant site.
🗳️Acreage: 3.04 acres Purchase Price: $3,938,000.00.
🗳️Source of Funding: Real Estate Transfer Fee, State Accommodations Taxes, Land Sale Proceeds, and Hospitality Taxes.
🗳️Benefits from Acquisition: Preclusion of 30,400 square feet of commercial development, 106 motel rooms, 18 timeshare units, and 1,028 PM peak-hour driving trips.
All these initiatives will provide significant benefits to the quality of life for our Ward 1 residents, and also for our entire Island community. And there’s much more to be done in the next four years, as we work together to win for Ward 1.
